Jon Ellingwood began his law enforcement career in the Alaska Department of Corrections. He started as a correctional officer and became an adjunct instructor for the training academy. He was promoted to the Disciplinary Sergeant and then transferred to the training academy as a full time instructor. At the Training Academy Staff Sergeant Ellingwood was responsible for training employees on departmental policy and procedure through various academies and in-service trainings. In addition to key specialty training, most notably instructor development classes to prepare the network of instructors who perform most of the department's in-service training. Staff Sergeant Ellingwood also provided current and relevant training through "Support Staff" training programs.
Staff Sergeant also works for the United States Marshal Service(USMS)
After his tenure at the Training Academy Jon transferred to the Anchorage Correctional Complex where he currently is the Operations Sergeant. Staff Sergeant Ellingwood has taught Control/Defensive Tactics or the past 15 years throughout the United States and Europe. Jon Ellingwood has trained in a variety of martial arts including Karate, Wrestling, Jujitsu, Judo, Brazilian Jiu-jJtsu, and Taiho-Jitsu. Jon is an advanced instructor trainer under Steven Jimerfield in One and One Control Tactics. He also holds instructor certifications in Oleoresin Capsicum, Baton, Impact weapons, Less Lethal, Firearms and multiple other certifications.
